Central to many towns are communities of people who unite in common interests and collectively create a space in which people thrive. The creative community of Queenstown offer a glimpse into real life, an opportunity to connect with locals and a chance to take home hand-made crafts, gifts, art and much more.
The Creative Queenstown Arts and Crafts Market provides a lakeside stage in the centre of Queenstown for visual and performing artists, who bring their craft to market. You’ll meet local artists and some who travel from as far as Nelson and will only find highly creative handmade products – created and sold by the stallholder.
You’ll discover a wide range of arts and crafts of many mediums, from jewellery to pop art, handmade soaps to handstitched leather goods, paintings and pottery, to knits and pounamu, wood and wool and so much more.
Experiencing, supporting and connecting with locals doesn’t get any easier then at this local market – take a stroll, with coffee in hand, peruse the offering, connect with people and share stories, take home something lovingly made and why not stay a little longer to enjoy food and entertainment throughout the day.
Meet some of our local artists:
Jasmine Clark, artist and curator of the markets – Jasmine is loved by locals and showcases weaving, sculpture and cooper works at the market. Jasmine says “The market is a real fruit salad, there are some real characters among us. It’s very social and we are all a bit of a family. It’s also been a great outlet to showcase my creativity while bringing up a young family.”
Michele Burford of Hidez, is a talented Southland artist whose original designs and handstitched leather bags are stunning and hard to walk past without taking one of these pieces home for a loved one or to add to your collection.
Emma Peers of Studio Peers, is a talented illustrator whose inspiration comes from this beautiful country we call home and botanicals – her museum-quality prints will liven up any room, greeting cards and notebooks to keep or gift, or how about something extra special for the pets in the family with customised pet portraits.
Many artists offer workshops to share their passion, to encourage others to learn or start a new creative journey – if you are interested in connecting with an artist to create your tailored local experience, contact us today.
